When I first played dark souls, I don't know how to backstab or parry, so I found the game really challenging and fun. It wasn't until I got to new londo I learned to circle-stab darkwraiths, and the fun of the game was pretty much sucked out, except for the enemies I couldn't backstab. For this reason I thought parrying backstabs was impossible because if you were in range for a parry, you were in range for a backstab. But apparently this is not true, the active window for a backstab is smaller than the hitbox created by a whiffed backstab. I think this is only possible with low latency though. Simply wait for an opportunity, get into position, and hit R1 while behind an enemy to stab them in the back and inflict a massive amount of damage. Lining up the backstab animation can be a little finicky, though. xXxHaVeN 10 years ago #2. No, you're getting backstabbed in the back. What you're seeing is a phantom image of where your opponent previously was. Their actual location is determined by the amount of lag you are currently experiencing with the fight. If it's bad, adjust your play accordingly and keep moving! Make sure you have your shield lowered when you attempt a backstab. Shield down, and sometimes it seems to help to let go of the analogue stick right before hitting the button to backstab. Not really, it is still the same. Just get within a certain angle of the enemy's back and press R1. Set it to whatever you want, don't just use the defaults. I'd highly recommend a mouse with many buttons though. Mine has L-click, Middle-click, R-click and two other buttons on top. On the side it has 12 buttons used by the thumb. This is mine . Dragonscale ring. It will piss them off greatly to see you take reduced backstab damage. Unlocked play helps. Vertical swing ultra back swing is useful too. Horizontal swing ultra is easy to backstab but L2 stomp can pull you out of backstabs if timed right since it gets priority over backstab.
